Sew a Cute Holiday Cat Pillow
This adorable holiday cat pattern from Craft and Fabric Links makes a pillow in the shape of a snuggly sleeping cat. Templates for the pieces are provided in PDF format.
Make Cat Christmas Ornaments
Squidoo’s popular how-to for making cat ornaments provides directions for building upon standard Christmas tree baubles using glitter, googly eyes, and other craft supplies. The page also features a gallery of cat ornaments for inspiration.
Jennifer Claerr provides directions for making unique polymer clay cat ornaments that can be baked in a regular oven to harden and then painted. Other than clay, paint, varnish, and a craft blade, required supplies are standard household items, such as wax paper, rolling pin, white paper, and pencil.
Create Cat Christmas Cards
Claudine Casault provides directions for creating an elaborate 3-dimensional cat Christmas card. This craft, which is suitable for children aged 4 and up, is somewhat supply-intensive, requiring white cardstock, red velvet fabric, red ribbon, small bells, pink paper, double-sided tape, craft glue, fishing line, and some sort of white fluffy material.
It’s also quite easy to make Christmas cards from scratch using a colour printer and materials and images of your choice. Free cat clip-art and photos can be found at the following sites:
- Vintage Holiday Crafts provides a gallery of free vintage Christmas cat art cards.
- For free cat clip-art, see the Public Domain Clip-Art Cats page.
- For adorable Christmas cat images, see Christmas Cat and Dog in Wreath, Christmas Cat and Dog with Santa Hat, and Cute Kitten in a Santa Hat.
- Large galleries of free cat photos can be found on the Wikimedia Commons Felis Silvestris Catus page, Morguefile’s 166 pages of cat photos, and Flickr’s Creative Commons cat pages.
Images can be printed directly onto white cardstock or onto white glossy paper and then cut out and glued to cardstock of a different colour to create cards with a border.
Sew a Christmas Cat Quilt or Wall Hanging
Janet Wickel provides this basic pattern for a Christmas patchwork quilt block with a cat. This pattern can be customized by using various fabrics (including those that resemble fur for a 3-dimensional effect); embroidering or appliqueing whiskers and eyes onto the cat; or dressing it up with bows, bells, and other adornments.
